As many of you may know, Dr. Mark Bohnert and Dr. Laura Geiger are the team dentists for Butler University basketball. Before basketball practice even begins, Dr. Bohnert and Dr. Geiger make custom mouthguards for each player on the team.
Dr. Mark Bohnert and Dr. Laura Geiger are the team dentists for Butler University basketball. Here they enjoy a game at Hinkle Fieldhouse, home of the Butler Bulldogs.
Dr. Mark Bohnert and Dr. Laura Geiger made custom mouthguards for all the Butler University basketball players, including seniors Tyler Wideman and Kelan Martin.
Coaches, trainers, and players at Butler know that a dental injury can send an athlete to a place they don’t want to be… the sidelines!
Who needs a mouthguard?
Mouthguards should be worn by anyone – both children and adults – who play contact sports. Basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and boxing have the highest tooth-injury risk. Lacerations, tooth fracture, and tooth loss can be prevented by wearing a mouthguard. Recent studies show that mouthguards may lessen the severity of concussions.
In the video below, Dr. Bohnert talks about the importance of wearing a mouthguard when you play sports.

What is the best type of mouthguard?
At Southeast Family Dental we recommend custom mouthguards. We personally make your custom-fitted mouthguard in our office laboratory. First, we take an impression of your teeth to use as a model and then Dr. Bohnert and Dr. Geiger mold a special material over the model. You now have your own made-to-order mouthguard which will provide the utmost comfort and protection.
Don’t get sidelined!
Do you have a young (or old!) athlete in your family dreaming of March Mania and NCAA basketball glory? Don’t let them on the court without a custom mouthguard made by our team at Southeast Family Dental.
